Hanyang University handles the personal information of users within the scope of purpose of collection and use of personal information and does not process personal information outside the original purpose or provide it to any third party without the provider's prior consent, except for the following cases:
- With consent of provider;
- When stipulated in other laws and regulations;
- When clearly deemed required for urgent life, physical, and/or property benefits of information provider or a third party while the information provider or his/her legal representative is in a condition where no expression can be made or not located;

Hanyang University stipulates on the consignment contracts the provisions for prohibition of personal information outside the purpose of consignment, technical and managerial protection, limitation of re-consignment, management and supervision of consignees, and liabilities for compensations under Article 26 of the Personal Information Protection Act (Limitation of Personal Information Handling by Consignment), and supervises how consignees handle personal information safely.
We will immediately disclose any changes to the contents of consignment or consignees through the Personal Information Handling Policies.
Information providers may exercise the following rights and the legal representatives of children under 14 years of age may demand suspension of accessibility, modification, deletion, or handling of the children's personal information.
- Demand for access to personal information: Personal information files retained by Hanyang University may be accessed under Article 35 of the 「Personal Information Protection Act (Access to Personal Information)」.
However, your demand to access personal information may be limited by Article 35-4 of the Act:
1. When access is limited or restricted by law;
2. When access may harm others' lives or bodies or damage others' properties and/or benefits;
3. When access critically interferes with a public office's operation for any of the following:
A. Imposition/collection or refund of taxes;
B. When access is limited or restricted by laws related to the evaluation or admissions of schools founded by the 「Elementary and Secondary Education Act」 or 「Higher Education Act」, lifelong education facilities founded by the 「Lifelong Education Act」, or other higher education facilities founded by other laws and regulations;
C. Examinations and license evaluation for academic records, skills, or employment;
D. Evaluation or decisions in regards to subsidies·grants;
E. Audits and survey by other laws and regulations - Demands to modify/delete personal information: Anyone can demand modify/delete personal information files retained by Hanyang University under Article 36 of the 「Personal Information Protection Act (Modification/Deletion of Personal Information)」.
However, deletion cannot be demanded if the personal information is to be collected by other laws and regulations.
- Demand for suspension of handling personal information: Anyone may demand suspension of handling of personal information files retained by Hanyang University under Article 37 of the 「Personal Information Protection Act (Suspension of Handling Personal Information, etc.).
However, the demand for suspension of handling personal information may be declined under Article 37-2 of the Act.
1. When stipulated otherwise or inevitable for compliance with laws and regulations;

Hanyang University immediately disposes of personal information whose purpose of handling has been achieved. The process, deadline, and method of disposal are as follows:
1. Process of disposal: Personal information is disposed after a certain period of time or immediately after achieving the purpose under internal policies or other related laws and regulations.
2. Deadline: Personal information is disposed within five days from the end of the retention period or the day when it is deemed that personal information handling is no longer necessary due to achievement of purpose of personal information.
3. Method of disposal: Information contained in electronic files is destroyed using technical measures so they are no longer accessible. Personal information in hard copies is shredded or incinerated.
Hanyang University takes the following technical/managerial and physical actions to secure security of personal information under Article 29 of the 「Personal Information Protection Act (Safety Measures)」:
1. Minimization and training of employees handling personal information:
We appoint employees who handle personal information and minimize access to personal information.
2. Establishment and execution of internal control plans
We have established and executed internal control plans for safe handling of personal information.
3. Technical measures against hacking, etc.
Hanyang University installs security programs to prevent leakage and damage of personal information by hacking or computer viruses and renews and tests them regularly. Also, the systems are installed in zones with restricted access and technically and physically monitored and blocked.
4. Restriction of access to personal information
The access to the database systems handling personal information is granted, modified, and terminated to restrict access to personal information and unauthorized access is controlled by intrusion blocking systems.
5. Retention of access records
The access records of personal information processing systems are retained and managed for at least six months.
6. Encryption of personal information
Users' passwords and citizen ID numbers are encrypted to be saved and managed. Also, critical data are encrypted when saved and transmitted with additional security measures.
7. Access control by unauthorized personnel
There is a separate storage for personal information and the access control procedures have been established and operated.

Information providers may file a case for resolution of disputes or counseling with Personal Information Dispute Arbitration Committee or Korea Internet & Security Agency's Personal Information Infringement Report Center to seek remedy from personal information infringement.
