ince its establishment in 1980, the Department of French Studies has produced numerous talented graduates who can be found in various fields. Graduates of our department have entered different fields such as translation, interpretation, aviation, broadcasting, publishing, education, film, trade, and hotels, and are recognized for their outstanding talent and sincerity, and are actively engaged in activities as professionals and/or experts. The main goal of the department is to nurture creative professionals for the era of globalization through extensive and systematic education on French language and culture. The department has many special programs that are difficult to find in French-related departments at other universities.
Educational Goal and Specialization Strategy
The Department of French Studies aims to nurture creative and professional talent who can thrive in this the era of globalization through extensive and systematic education on the French language and culture. The department is concentrating efforts to cultivate well-rounded professionals who can contribute to the development of culture in various fields while also contributing toward the promotion of Korea to the international community. In addition, the department aims to nurture exemplary members of society who actively participate in school, the local community, the country, and beyond through a spirit of service and devotion to the advancement of society.
1. Fostering experts in French translation
- Offering courses for interpretation and translation skills training and practice in interpretation and translation
- French literature translation, French fairy tales, cartoons
- Offering French translation courses for Korean comics, fairy tales, dramas, movies, K-POP, etc.
- IC-PBL lectures for all subjects
2. Fostering experts in French culture and cultural arts
- Offering various French culture and arts lectures
- Inviting cultural art experts from home and abroad to give lectures
- Opening of IC-PBL lectures in connection with domestic and foreign culture and arts companies
- Promotion of internships and on-the-job training at domestic and foreign culture and arts companies
3. Cultivating experts in EU and international relations
- Offering courses related to European politics and trade
- Promoting internships at domestic and international organizations
- Special lectures by domestic and foreign experts in international relations
- Career development support including the”French company mock interview program”, ”French public office mock interview program”, etc.
4. Department specialized program
- Local Semester at Paris 8 University, France
- - A local semester system with Université Paris VIII in France since 2008
- - Acquisition of a total of 18 credits by completing all the courses during the 6th semester at the University of Paris 8
- - Lectures in various fields such as French culture, society, and art in France
- - Enhancement of international perspective and formation of global networking through exchanges with students from all over the world
- Intensive French Summer Session
- - Intensive French Training taught by professors invited from French universities every summer since 2009
- - An intensive lecture for three weeks by a professor who is currently majoring in French education at a French university
- - An opportunity to learn the local French language and high-quality university French
- DELF Exam Preparation Class
- - Efficient preparation for the DELF (official French proficiency test) which is a prerequisite for employment and postgraduate admissions
- - Specially selected students by Korean and French professors in the department
- - Achieving high performance every year through thorough guidance and management by professors

Student Societies
- Chanson Society : Stump is a mentoring society that teaches freshmen French and helps them adjust to college life. Various events are held where mentors can do mentoring with their own textbooks and build friendships. Any Department of French Studies student can study French comfortably with Stump.

- Lumière Imaging Society : The Society of Lumière Imaging Society is a society open to all students who are interested in video or film. This is a society where students can directly produce short films using the filming equipment of the department, submit them to the French Department Film Festival, and share film-related knowledge.
Careers after Graduation
Graduates of the Department of French Studies have various career options they can pursue utilizing French language skills and cultural insights and knowledge gained in the program. In particular, the graduates of the department have distinguished themselves in the following fields:
- First, alumni can be found working as professional interpreters and translators based on practical French proficiency.
- Second, graduates can engage performance planning, cultural consulting, advertising, and event planning based on their knowledge of French culture.
- Third, students can pursue careers as broadcast writers and screenwriters based on the various knowledge and experiences they have gained related to literature and visual culture.
- Fourth, graduates can join professional companies such as airlines, hotels, and tourism based on their French proficiency and an insight into Western culture.
